Gillian & Miguel's Wedding

On 7 September Gillian and Miguel were married in Portugal

The British contingent went out to Aveiro for a few days prior to the wedding. Debbie and I stayed in the Aveiro Palace in the centre of the city close to the canals. John and Sue, Nick and Maggie, Tina and Mick stayed at the same hotel and Janette, Kevin and Chloe stayed further down the coast.

The girls all went off to the Hen Night and the boys off to the Stag Night on the Thursday before the wedding. We all had a terrific and memorable evening at out respectice venues.

The wedding took place at a really nice converted farmhouse wedding venue about 10 miles from Aveiro. The wedding ceremony was spectacular with Gillian and I arriving in a traditional horse and trap. The other guests from the UK arrived by coach and the ceremony took place under a gazebo in the sunshine.

The food and wine provided at the venue was spectacular with everyone eating and drinking all afternoon and late into the evening. Gill and Migs led a toast in the moonlight and to an impressive firework display.

All in all it was a day we will remember forever.

April 2013

We have been off on our holidays again! Debbie and I, and our friends Ang and Rich, are just back from a transatlantic voyage on Independence of the Seas. We flew out with BA from Heathrow to Miami and, after a couple of hours delay passing through immigration at Miami, were transferred to our overnight hotel - the Marriott Fort Lauderdale North.

The next morning we were picked up and taken to the ship at Port Everglades. Checking in was a doddle and we were on the ship in less than 10 minuites. After the customery safety drill we set sail. We visited 3 islands - Nassau in the Bahamas, Peuto Rica and St Maarten.

A highlight was a lovely lunch overlooking the beach at St Maarten. Debbie, Rich and Ang and I really enjoyed listening to a reggae band playing on the beach while we ate our lunch.

After a few days spent around the Caribbean we spent 8 days crossing the Atlantic, finally reaching our final destination - Southampton.
